Ladies Weekend Out acknowledges that Sequoia & King’s Canyon is the ancestral land of the Monache (Western Mono), Tübatulabal, Yokuts, Eastern Mono (Owens Valley Paiute) and Western Shoshone people. For these tribes, the Sierra Nevada is a sacred place, filled with meaning connected to creation stories, ceremonial practices, and seasonal migrations. Key features like the giant sequoias (which could be seen as “elders” of the forest), high peaks, and rivers hold spiritual and cultural importance.
